Kyuss Reform! (sort of)

Well. It’s both unexpected but sort of inevitable.

Kyuss, the stoner rock gods, or desert rock legends (take your pick or feel free to mix and match) have (mostly) reformed and announced a 2011 UK and European tour.

Singer John Garcia played a number of euro dates earlier in this year under the moniker ‘Garcia Sings Kyuss’, and was joined on stage by ex-members Brant Bkork and Nick Oliveri at a number of dates (including a monolithic appearance at Hellfest).

He  has now confirmed the trio will be touring again under the name ‘Kyuss Lives!’. The dates are mostly around March and April time, but, I wouldn’t wait around for that long to make a ‘yes/no’ decsion on going if  were you.

Guitarist Josh Homme will NOT be joining in, and will be replaced by Bruno Fevery, who filled in on guitar for the ‘Garcia Sings Kyuss’ shows. Josh has been pretty explicit in his view that a reunion would not be the way to end the Kyuss legacy, but since he’s got two bands on the go, I suspect he’s not exactly suffering from boredom. Or a lackof critical acclaim. Whatever it is, somewhere there’s a party going on, and he’s decided not to join in, and try to ruin it for everyone else.

And the other three? Well, this does seem to be a ‘for the fans’ situation:

John Garcia: “”[This is] both for the [fans] that have seen Kyuss live back in the day, and especially for the ones who haven’t had that chance. This could be as close as they could get to the real thing.”

The ‘Real Thing’ was a legend.

‘Garcia Sings Kyuss’ was agonisingly close to ‘awesome’.

This, people, could be it: John Garcia was a constant in Kyuss, and Brant and Nick were there in the early days, and it’s their input that gave Kyuss it’s heart and soul.

Tickets go onsale in the UK on Friday at 9AM.

I’d check the interweb for the dates nearest you.

And I’d set an alarm.
