Ok, so it’s not a ‘METAL’ festival, and they’re not a ‘METAL’ band.
Big deal – IT”S THE CURE!
And, in case you weren’t really aware of it, Bestival is probably one of the better festivals this country has to offer – It’s basically a fancy dress knees-up on the Isle of Wight. It’s won or been short-listed for ‘Best Medium Sized Festival’ pretty much every year it’s been going. Except 2011. When it won ‘Best Major Festival’.
So, if you can handle about 30’000 Shoreditch Refugees and slack-jawed yokels, you can see the band who defined goth, and, with ‘Disintegration’ made one of the greatest albums of ALL FRIGGING TIME.
(Ok, I’m kidding – The island’s okay, even if it IS stuck in the fifties)
Festival organiser Rob da Bank says: ‘I’ve spent the last twenty years of my life listening to The Cure and the last five attempting to persuade Robert Smith and the crew to hop on a ferry to our magical Isle. I’m still not sure what we’ve done right but I’m overjoyed that they are coming as Saturday night headliners. Few bands have had such a massive impact on my life (and hairstyles) so I’ll see you down the front!’
(Rob was one of the people handpicked to cover for John Peel after he passed away, so you can trust him. Most of the time. Actually, His hair’s almost as awesome as mine: just go with it and trust him)
The rest of the announced bill is, well, eclectic, and includes Primal Scream and DJ Shadow, but to be honest, the music at Bestival ISN’T the whole story – it’s more an escape into lunacy and weirdness.
I should probably add that it’s taking place at Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight from the 8th to the 11th of September 2011.

It’s got the best food of ANY festival.

And it’s got an amazing cocktail bar.
