THEY MAY sound like something from a dark fairytale, but the Von Hertzen Brothers are actually Finland’s No. 1 rock band – three siblings (vocalist/guitarist Mikko, guitarist/ vocalist Kie & bassist/vocalist Jonne) with a formidable live reputation plus the collective ability to produce challenging music that never comes across as specialist or niche.
With their latest album, ‘Stars Aligned’, about to be released in the UK (March 21st) via Spinefarm Records, these gold-sellin’, Grammy-winnin’ wild brothers of rock have now been confirmed to appear at the second High Voltage Festival in East London’s Victoria Park on Saturday, July 23rd. Other artists set to feature at this event, co-presented by Classic Rock magazine, are Judas Priest, Queensrÿche & Barclay James Harvest.
This will be the second time that The Brothers (plus keyboard player Juha Kuoppala & drummer Mikko Kaakkuriniemi) have played live in the UK, the first being a headline show at the Jazz Cafe in London back in February.
Produced by James Spectrum (Pepe Deluxe, etc.) and set to feature nine brand new compositions, including lead single/video ‘Angel’s Eye’, ‘Stars Aligned’ sees the Brothers further developing a musical style that has memorably been described as ‘Foo Fighters playing Pink Floyd’s greatest hits after spending years in India singing to Beach Boys tunes’!
With 2011 predicted as a big year for intelligent, complex music and quality playing, the Von Hertzen Brothers’ high-flyin’ combination of psychedelia & melodic, multi-layered rock should see them building quickly on their substantial home-grown success, sprinkling some serious fairy dust of their own!
